Early Start Option on iPod®

Preparing for the California Bar Exam is a two-step process. Students must learn the relevant substantive law and how to analyze and apply the law. In a typical bar review course, both steps must be accomplished in a two month time period. For a growing number of students, this is a difficult project. Many mismanage the time crunch and spend too much time on the substantive law, leaving them very little time to work on their application skills. To address this problem, BarPassers offers students the option of starting their preparation early with our Early Start Option on iPod®.

How early can I begin?

The Early Start Option on iPod® is available up to 6 months prior to the California Bar Exam or 4 months prior to the commencement of our Bar Review Course. That means students can more than double their actual bar exam preparation.

What’s on the iPod®?

The iPod® contains over 75 hours of substantive law lectures and over 50 hours of skills workshops – the same substantive lectures and skills workshops that will be presented during the actual Bar Review Course for repetition and reinforcement.

Will there be a study guide to follow?

Students are asked to follow a 10-week syllabus that will guide them through each week. Assignments include listening to the substantive law lectures and where applicable, practicing multiple choice questions on our computer software. Most students can complete the assignments in approximately 8-10 hours per week, leaving them ample time to focus on their last semester in law school.

How will the early start help me pass the bar exam?

By spending a just a few hours a week during you final semester in law school, you can complete a first pass through the entire substantive law tested on the California Bar Exam and begin to hone your skills on the MBE. That’s invaluable. Because of the substantive base you will have built by your first pass through the substantive law, you will have ample time during the last two months to focus on your application skills and writing.

Can I attend classes at a Bar Review Course location once they begin?

Yes. Enrollees participating in the Early Start Option on iPod® will shift to the regular course syllabus and are welcome to join their fellow students at any active course location once the Bar Review Course begins. They may also continue their preparation at home in lieu of attending classes.

Either way, students follow the same lecture schedule and homework regimen. They also receive the same materials and turn in the same practice exams for grading and written evaluation.

If I’m no longer in law school, can I still participate in the Early Start Option?

Yes. Many early start students are practicing attorneys from other states or countries, LLM’s or Juris Doctors who have yet to take the California Bar Exam.

How much does the Early Start Option on iPod® cost?

Students enrolling in the Early Start Option on iPod® pay only $500 in additional tuition. Additional sales tax, shipping charges and refundable deposits also apply. For a current price list and application, click here.
